[Expired] Warning: PhotoPlog and vB 3.7

Warning: PhotoPlog and vB 3.7 compatibility has not yet been tested. Tests will be completed as soon as possible, around the time of the vB 3.7 Gold release.

If you wish to continue using PhotoPlog, whether Lite or Pro, the recommendation is to not upgrade to vB 3.7 until compatibility testing is complete. This does not mean you cannot upgrade to vB 3.7. It means that if you wind up having problems, there isn't much that can be done for you until compatibility tests and any code changes are complete.

These are the official plans with regard to PhotoPlog Pro and vB 3.7:
  • Check that pro v.2.1.4.7 is compatible
  • If not, make changes as necessary
  • Check that pro v.2.1.5 is compatible
  • If not, make changes as necessary
  • Finish pro v.2.1.5 & announce release
Please heed this warning, thanks.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

For PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.4.7 to work with vB 3.7.0 Beta 2, grab the ZIP and FTP the following files, overwriting the files on the server:
  • /forum/admincp
    • photoplog_upgrade.php
  • /photoplog
    • ajax.php
    • comment.php
    • edit.php
    • functions.php
    • index.php
    • upload.php
After vB 3.7.0 Gold is released, compatibility will again be checked, but chances are fairly good that PhotoPlog Pro v.2.1.4.7 will work.

If you want your vB member pages to look like this, you will need to revert the vB MEMBERINFO template and then add the following:
Code:

        <br />
        $photoplog[minithumbnails]
        $photoplog[memberalbums]
        $photoplog[thumbnails]

After the following in the vB MEMBERINFO template:
Code:

        <div id="profile_tabs">
                $template_hook[profile_left_first]
                $blocks[visitor_messaging]
                $blocks[aboutme]
                $blocks[stats]
                $blocks[friends]
                $blocks[infractions]
                $blocks[contactinfo]
                $template_hook[profile_left_last]
        </div>

See this thread for the tabbed version.

do you think 3.7 is coming out soon?

Morgan 11-24-2007 03:45 PM

Looks like it won't be long. See http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249460

eden 11-24-2007 04:26 PM

Will 2.1.5 be first? (in your opinion) :D

Morgan 11-24-2007 04:51 PM

Even if pro v.2.1.5 were finished before vB 3.7 is released, pro v.2.1.5 needs to be checked for compatibility, so its release will definitely be second. Otherwise, it's possible that I'd need to make two back-to-back releases and that might lead to confusion or another upgrade.

Thanks for the info and keeping us updated!

Care to comment on the addition of photo albums to vB in 3.7? What does this say about the future of PhotoPlog?

Morgan 11-27-2007 07:22 PM

As mentioned more than once in this vBcom thread, the vB 3.7 albums are not a full gallery script. Some people may find that the vB 3.7 albums are their preferred choice; others may find that a gallery script is their preferred choice. In the end, it is up to each person to decide what choice fits best with his or him needs.

eden 11-27-2007 11:10 PM

Morgan I've read 3.7 is up to April... will you wait those months for 2.1.5 ??

Morgan 11-27-2007 11:20 PM

What you read was probably this vBcom post that states well before April, not in April. Why assume the worst?

eden 11-28-2007 02:18 PM

It is just past experience!

James 11-28-2007 06:13 PM

We've played around with the 3.7 photo system and it's really *really* limited. No searching system whatsoever AFAICT, no really ability for it to be a site wide gallery at all...

That said, there's some useful features in there that are worth noting. High on the list is the ability to use an automatic resizing of uploaded images, we have had quite a few ahh... computer challenged... folks that have HUGE images that they can't get to upload, it'd be great to have an auto resize that can make them fit within an admin defined x/y set of pixel count values.

It'd also be really *really* helpful to be have a block/module of some sort that could be used in the new profiles to show the member's images ditto for the vBlogs.

Photoplog is *lightyears* ahead of the limited photo functionality in 3.7, hopefully it'll be possible to piggyback on some of the new hooks etc to better integrate Photoplog once 3.7 is out? Looks like a *lot* of potential there, we're really pretty excited about what the future could hold...

[edit]
Oops... forgot to add: Highslide beats Lightbox hands down and walking away too, not to mention the integration of images thumbs into the forum search etc etc... 'Plog is orders of magnitude past the photo functionality included with 3.7 IMO, and given the way jelsoft has implemented it, it looks kind of like their focus is comlpetely different. They seem to look at an image gallery as an afterthought, a nice tweak, but not something worthy of being it's own product. We couldn't disagree more, the gallery is a very important and dynamic part of our site... Ehh... Short Version: Go 'Plog go! ;)

So Morgan, will you wait til'' 3.7 hits the road for Photoplog 2.1.5 ??

Morgan 12-10-2007 05:28 PM

Yes, the pro v.2.1.5 release will definitely be second.

I could test the new vB Gallery feature and to be honest: This one could not convinced me. I'll throw it away and I'll stay by using PhotoPlog. What else? :)

IMO it does say "NOTHING". I'm not Morgan but if I'd stay in devolping PhotoPlog as usual. PhotoPlog does have a glory future. It's simply the best ;) -Mike

RvG 12-12-2007 02:49 PM

by the way... any screen shots to new features embed on 2.1.5?

Morgan 12-12-2007 10:05 PM

No screenshots yet, but I'll update the screenshots page after pro v.2.1.5 is released.

MikeD 12-13-2007 10:47 AM

What? A new 2.1.5 version? Did I miss something? Would you please tell us some new details, Morgan? :)

Morgan 12-13-2007 04:48 PM

Yep, I'm planning to release pro v.2.1.5, but after vB 3.7 goes gold, though there is no set release date yet. Once released, I'll create a thread in the announcements forum.

Morgan 12-16-2007 01:55 PM

FYI, see the first post in this thread for an update.

marcos 12-16-2007 02:25 PM

How did you get 3.7 early? You must have a good hook up :)

Morgan 12-16-2007 03:07 PM

RvG 12-20-2007 06:19 AM

Hi Morgan ,,, when is new version coming up?

Morgan 12-20-2007 06:42 AM

Sorry, I don't offer guesses, speculation, or predictions because, if I were to mention a date and then didn't meet that date, people would be disappointed, etcetera, so suffice it to say, "when it's done." ;)

Freesteyelz 01-20-2008 05:27 AM

Hmm. PhotoPlog Pro seems to be working fine with vB 3.7 Beta 3...And I've been using the download package prior to this latest update. The only issue I came across was that the installer didn't work on a fresh vB 3.7 Beta 3 install. PhotoPlog Pro worked if vB was upgraded from 3.6.8 to 3.7 Beta 3.

Freesteyelz 01-20-2008 05:56 AM

...But I've upgraded anyway. Thank you. :D

eden 01-31-2008 10:39 PM

Any new on the upcoming version of Photoplog?

Thanks a lot !!

Morgan 02-01-2008 01:57 PM

Not until after vB 3.7 goes gold at the earliest, and probably some time after that to make sure everything works correctly.

Any chance you can post some of the new features?

Morgan 02-03-2008 03:26 PM

The release announcement should contain a list of features, but probably the biggest change, which requires a large amount of rewrite, is the ability to upload various media files, not just images.

Does this means users will be able to Upload videos on the fly AND add videos from YouTube also?

Morgan 02-05-2008 12:33 AM

The uploading of media content will probably behave like the uploading of images currently behaves. As for videos on any third-party sites, you'll need to check the policies of those sites to see if they allow their videos to be uploaded elsewhere. Probably not.

All mentioned files in the zip are still dated 10.09.07, so they shouldnt do anything regarding the vB 3.7

Morgan 03-13-2008 01:37 AM

Ignore the date; do what is stated in the post.

marcos 03-14-2008 05:28 PM

I hope the ability to upload new media files kicks this mods butt!:

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=168658

I also hope that it does not allow users to upload videos but takes from other sites because that would kill our disk space.

beduino 03-27-2008 04:27 PM

Morgan 03-27-2008 05:24 PM

Post one in this thread has a list of files for use with vB 3.7. As long as you have done as in post one, should be okay.

eden 04-05-2008 06:31 PM

Morgan: Any update on the new Photoplog por VB 3.7; 3.7 it's almost final.
