Default Image display page- way too much scrolling!

In general, my members are greatly enjoying the photoplog user photo gallery, but I keep on getting complaints about the amount of scrolling required on the image display page.

I've therefore taken some time to modify that page and I'd like to share the results here. With the standard installation of photoplog, the main photo cannot be seen on typical resolutions without scrolling (assume a small logo/header like in screenshots 4 and 5). After my edits, all 1280x1024 users and some 1280x800 users will no longer need to scroll!

I suggest that you also look into this problem a bit, since even on the demo I need to scroll to see most photos (fully), with both the navbar and filmstrip collapsed. I am using a 1280x800 laptop.

Feel free to check out any of my other changes view viewing the live gallery here: http://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/index.php. Those changes would include a different structure for the random thumbnails, a welcome message for guests, changes in phrasing, and more

Regards,

Adam

P.S. another thing that I've noticed is that the upload link does not appear for you when you're viewing your own photos or when viewing a category. I don't know why, but to fix the problem I changed the conditional to <if condition="!is_member_of($bbuserinfo, X, Y)"> where X and Y are usergroups that cannot upload photos.

The same thing goes for this page as well: http://www.photoplog.com/demo/pro/index.php?c=8

At most, all of the first row of pictures and only part of the second row can be seen at a time. Have a look at how streamlined PBase random browsing is compared to that of photoplog. Irrelevant info such as filesize and dimensions and the redundant restating of the category should be removed (a conditional should be added so that the category is only shown if you have just run a search or if you are viewing photos taken by a single person.

While I can appreciate that you want a certain look to the gallery, for each item that you would rather take out, there is probably someone else that wants to show it. There is no way for me to make a look that fits everyone's taste, so if someone wants something different, a template edit is a possibility. As for the upload link, it should show when you view a category or your own files. Try the online demo and please let me know if something is amiss. As to category, PhotoPlog nests thumbs by default so the listed category won't necessarily be the same for all files.
