Default Install outside forum directory?

Is this software installed outside the forum directory? Can it be? So can I have:

forums/ (vB installed)
photos/ (PhotoPlog)

Also can you have a different template for the header so if I have tabs I can highlight the photo tab when in PhotoPlog and the Forums tab when in vB

Yes, you can install PhotoPlog outside of the forum directory so you can have both /forums and /photos as directories. PhotoPlog uses the vB header template, so if you want a different header template, you could use a template conditional or reset $header via a hook when in the gallery.
